Nose aesthetics, also known as rhinoplasty, is a plastic surgery performed to change the shape of the nose or improve the nose functionally. Nasal defects are improved with rhinoplasty, which is the most preferred aesthetic operation in the world. Rhinoplasty also eliminates breathing problems. Rhinoplasty is a good option for both women and men to achieve the golden ratio and breathe more easily.
How is Rhinoplasty Done?
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia and with two different techniques. The first method is closed nose surgery, in which surgical incisions are made inside the nose. The second method is open nose surgery. In this technique, incisions start from the inside of the nose and extend outward. The doctor decides which method the surgery will be performed based on the patient's nose structure.
In the process of planning rhinoplasty surgery, the patient's age, gender, skin structure, whether there are breathing problems, the ratio of nose and face shape, the patient's medical history, medications used, and trauma history, if any, are taken into consideration. No matter which method rhinoplasty is performed, the incision scars will disappear after a while.
Things to Consider Before Rhinoplasty
There are some points to consider before rhinoplasty. These are very important for the operation to be more successful and for the recovery process to go faster after rhinoplasty.
Aspirin or other blood thinners, slimming pills, vitamin pills should be stopped 10 days in advance as they will cause bleeding after surgery.
You should not consume herbal teas such as green tea until 1 week before the surgery. There is no harm in consuming black tea.
You should not consume foods containing salicylic acid, such as cherries, sour cherries, garlic and raisins, which may increase bleeding.
Since smoking will delay your recovery, you should quit 1 week in advance.
You should stop eating and drinking 8 hours before the surgery.
Recovery After Rhinoplasty
We tell patients that they need to be a little patient during the recovery process after rhinoplasty. Because complete recovery from rhinoplasty surgery varies between 6 months and 2 years. After surgery, the patient is usually discharged after 6-8 hours. However, some patients stay in the hospital overnight. You should not eat or drink anything for 4-6 hours after the surgery. Then, you should eat by consuming watery foods. Although you may experience pain when the effect of anesthesia wears off, this situation is temporary and can be controlled with painkillers prescribed by the doctor. Slight bleeding may occur in the first 2 days after surgery. You can apply ice complex to prevent swelling and edema. It is necessary to go to a doctor's check-up 10 days after the surgery. Swelling on the face will disappear within 3 to 7 days. After rhinoplasty, you need to protect your nose from impacts as much as possible. You should also avoid touching your nose with your hands during the initial recovery period after surgery.
